Power ICs embed MCU and CAN FD interface

Infineon’s TLE988x and TLE989x series of ICs combine a gate driver, microcontroller, communication interface, and power supply on a single chip. Devices in the TLE988x series are H-bridge drivers for 2-phase brushed DC motor control, while ICs in the TLE989x series are 3-phase bridge drivers for brushless DC motors.

The N-channel MOSFET drivers employ a 32-bit Arm Cortex-M3 microcontroller running at up to 60 MHz to enable the implementation of advanced motor control algorithms. Their CAN FD transceiver operates at a speed of 2 Mbps. Variants offer flash memory sizes of 128 kbytes and 256 kbytes and support read-while-write operation.

The drivers are AEC-Q100 qualified, making them suitable for automotive motor control applications. Infineon’s adaptive MOSFET control algorithm compensates for the variation of MOSFET parameters in the system by automatically adjusting the gate current to achieve the required switching. Devices are also ISO 26262 (ASIL B) compliant, and some variants have built-in cybersecurity.
