Temperature sensor withstands automotive use

An automotive-grade digital temperature sensor, the STS4xA from Sensirion, operates over a temperature range of -40°C to +125°C with typical accuracy of ±0.3°C. The 16-bit sensor provides a wide supply voltage range of 2.3 V to 5.5 V and communicates via an I2C interface. An integrated on-chip heater enables advanced onboard diagnostics, instead of relying on simple presence checks.

With dimensions of just 1.5×1.5×0.5 mm, the STS4xA’s 4-pin DFN package comes with optional wettable flanks to permit automated optical inspection. Thanks to its small size, the sensor can be easily integrated into a variety and automotive applications. Additionally, it meets AEC-Q100 reliability standards, including 85°C/85% RH accelerated life tests.

The STS4xA temperature sensor is based on Sensirion’s CMOSens technology, which enables the fusion of the sensor element and evaluation electronics on a tiny CMOS silicon chip. Sensors are fully calibrated, eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming calibration procedure.
